I've always wondered, there is a ton of coastline in Western Europe. Why did it have to be that specific beach? Why not somewhere else North or South that would allow for less casualties and then they could work their way up or down the coast?
Because of the logistics of landing all those troops and supplies in France! You don't want to go too far down the coast. The supply lines would have been stretched! Needed a beach head close to England to keep the supply chain close. Plus it was not as heavily defended as other beaches in Northern France.
